I'm not well versed in SEO as you probably know and the first to admit it but I'm learning!

I thought I'd pick the brains of you good people that know a lot about it (which is why I'm here!) and ask for a "don't" list to go with all the great advice on what to do. Can anyone enlighten me on the worst things we SEO newbies do that make seasoned professionals like yourselves bang your head off the desk? And I'll bet I've done some of them.

A big one people do is 'over' using key words. Filling a page with the words will only turn people (and search engines) away.

I think the worst thing is to jump in at the deep end without knowing anything about it at all.  Learn more about it first and how it works and learn to recognise your competitors.

Oh, another one is probably doing a whole bunch at once and then expecting the results to appear immediately and last long term. It takes continuous effort.

I couldn't agree with you more Kitten that's a mistake that is quite common and people get quite despondent when they find that the results are not there straight away.  Patience works wonders.

Thanks, Kitten and Mickie31! I've got to admit I'm not the most patient of people. I honestly don't keyword stuff things though, in fact am rather neglectful of even thinking about keywords much in any writing I do.

When I've worked on my sites in the past it's been a feast or a famine when it comes to content. I don't know why, I just can't seem to get any kind of consistency going with my efforts! I either go at it and get loads done at once then forget about updating it again for a while or it goes out of my mind completely because something new catches my eye.

I just spread myself too thin I guess, trying to work on numerous projects and ideas at once instead of focusing on just one. My big problem is I get bored easily. Really I'm my own worst enemy. Any help in getting myself more organized would be great too.

Well do you happen to use planners at all? Why not chart out your goals and then start working on them one at a time?  Or you could keep working on them all, but split it up like...on Monday market domain 1 and Tuesday, focus on getting new logos created, etc....just sort them out and try to bring in some focus.

I think the advise that Kitten has said is realy helpful and good advise.  I would also say do little and often and work to achievable goals.  If you cannot meet your goals it is dissapointing.  So write a list out and each time you complete something tick it off and you will feel like you have really achieved something good.  Hope this helps.  Strive to do little and often and the most important advise I can give is something my brother taught me get yourself a system.  If you have a system everything works into place.
