I'm wondering if there's a certain amount of keywords you can add to your content without it being classified as spam by most readers. Is there some kind of benchmark you can use to judge when enough is enough? For example, x number of keywords maximum within a paragraph or article that's so many words long.

Also, do the search engines penalize you if you have too many? I've not really used keywords to their best advantage and would like to do so but am afraid I'd do more harm than good so am a bit hesitant.

There 'is' a general rule for how many keywords per page, but I can't remember it off the top of my head. Hopefully someone else will be able to throw out a few guidelines for you.

I am not sure myself, but as long as it doesn't look like you have put tons of keywords in then I think it is alright, but don't quote me on that one.  I think sometimes you can read content and it has lots of keywords and it looks as though the person is trying to cram as many words in as possible.  It often looks messy and as though it is too wordy which will put customers off.

I heard of this before.  From what I remember you can only have 5 keywords on your page.

I'm not sure on the exact number of keywords on your page but it depends mainly on the way you present your page. If there are more keywords it would be a mess and lacking clarity too in my view, so having few keywords is all that is needed.
