Have you ever tried to make a Youtube video to promote your website?  If so what were the results and what type of video did you make?  I would be interested to hear about anyone who has any experience with Youtube and promoting their website.

I have never tried it before but I’ve been a follower of John Chow who likes linking a video on his blog.  I have notice that he has some simple video like his daughter playing then he would add something like “The pleasures of being an A blogger”.

I've made YouTube videos to promote a few things but never my own specific website, it would be a good idea though once you make sure it has some content that will interest people.

Yeah you would have to make the video really interesting so people would remember your website.  Adverts are very important for people to remember your site by.  I think it's important to have something really catchy like a theme tune so people can remember you by.

I haven't yet, but I'd really love to. It's just a matter of getting the time to actually do it.

That's the problem isn't it.  Finding time to do everything.  It is very difficult when you have so many other jobs and it's finding the time to work on your own site in between.

Exactly. I have a million things 'offline' to take care of and then a million more 'online.' There are so many things already going on that taking on a new project is just a crazy idea, lol.

Videos are a good way to attract more readers into your blogs.  I’m also thinking of making my own video once I got my own webcam.

I didn't make any videos to promote my blogs, but yeah I did make some funny videos of my little one and posted them. They were able to get many visitors too.

The most popular videos are those that have something with sex on their title.  I have seen a lot of these things on youtube but not all of them have real sex.  Most of them are just a sick practical joke.

I think if you have a serious site you won't get many people from youtube. However if you run a funny video or joke site it could really help.

I’ve been seeing a lot of those comical video being promoted on Youtube.  For me they aren’t that funny but it seems that they have caught the majority of users.

Yeah sometimes the serious videos have more power of attraction. Short videos to promote your website are probably better than very long ones. Upload the best possible quality video because people want to see clearly what is happening in the video.  A video that meets or exceeds the viewers requirements will go much further than a poor video. Also the sound needs to be audible no one want's to hear you screaming.  You have to make sure it's at a decent level. You also need to make a meaningful digital storytelling experience so that people will remember the video.

Maybe it is just me, but if I am looking for a serious site on health or whatever, I wouldn't go looking for a youtube video. Nor would I trust a site that used them. just me though.

I understand what you mean about Youtube certain people do abuse the site.  Therefore make it bad for everyone else who uses it.

This is what I don’t like about Youtube.  Mine is a serious site so I don’t think that people would be coming to my site once I have uploaded my own video.

Yeah I agree with you Choco you have to be careful with Youtube.  I think it is probably best suited for those people who have a blog site.

I’m just wondering how the likes of John Chow and others are able to pull it up because we have the same niche.  What are they doing that drives traffic from youtube to their blogs?

Hi thanks for drawing my attention to John Chow as I knew nothing about him, but have just read about him.  From what I have read he is doing things all the wrong way and is trying too hard to make money on his blog.  I don't think it should ever be about how much money you can make because then you are writing it for the wrong reasons and are not producing high quality work.  I think it has to be a passion.  I cannot answer the question of how he drives traffic from youtube though from what I have read it could well be done unethically.  I think if he carries on working unethically then he will face his own downfall sooner or later.

John Chow is making money by defying Google.  This is the reason why he is now known as evil in the world of blogging.  Even if he is always get  a slapped from Google, he is making more money from those with high PR.  I think that this is what is important on your online business.  It is not important if someone is more popular than but what really important in a business is the money that you make.

I wanted to try and make a youtube video to promote the online money making program I use, but I'd like to make one of the ones where its a video of the computer screen.  I'm not sure how to do that.  Any tips or suggestions?

The first thing you have to do is to buy a webcam and then record your own video.  You can edit with some software like Adobe After Effects.

I have a webcam, but because I want screenshots, I was wondering if there was a program to do that for me.  Webcam shots of a screen generally do not come out well for me, but I've seen lots of tutorials where the video IS what you would see if it were on your comp, plus narration.
