Every day I think I know everything about search engine optimization, I learn something new. I guess that will be the nature of our business. It's dangerous to think you know everything in the web design/marketing business. There's always a new programming language, a new trick with graphic design, new SEO techniques, and updates to algorithms. Google tries to make searches more efficient and Yahoo keeps screwing around just trying to differentiate itself from Google. Then, when you think you know who the two big SE players are, an old search engine like ask starts heavily advertising again.

As the SEO industry grows and becomes more popular, and more competitive, it's imperative that legitimate contenders hone their skills to stay ahead of the pack.

I couldn't agree with you more! I am still very new to SEO articles and I am amazed at how much information is available online- you simply have to keep searching, reading and hopefully...some of it sinks in eventually. I am hoping that is what will happen anyway!

This forum is a veritible repository of information on SEO--as it was meant to be, I suppose. I've learned more here than at any other one single source about SEO, only in the last few days. I must say that I am quite impressed, Slingshot. Bravo.

SEO is one of those topics where there is so much information - much of it contradictory.  Learn from reading, but also from trying as well.

I have to agree that much of the information on the web is so contradictory. It is best to find a source that you trust and stick with them- that's what I've found anyway.
I am always on the look out for new products, services and software that make things easier to understand / complete / navigate and so on.
Only problem is that when it comes to SEO- some times it's easier to do it the old fashioned way and write, write and keep on writing content.
I couldn't make heads or tails of content composer which I downloaded the other day! Totally lost!!

At a certain point, you have to ask yourself how you feel about feeding information into a porgram and having it spit out the content for you. I personally don't use them for my projects, because, to me, that takes away what makes writing fun--putting the words down and seeing how they fit together.

I know everyone can't do this, but building you website from scratch and ensuring clean code is pretty important IMO.  This issue today is that so many people are competing for search engine positioning that you must have loads of content to compete, thus basic html websites don't stand a chance.  You have to be pretty savvy to code in PHP, CSS and/or ASP.NET for assistance with dynamic websites.  I'm lucky enough to have a powerful team of graphic designers, programmers and business minds to build powerful websites, but it can be a daunting task if you're a one-man-show.

Feel free to ask questions and I will answer them to the best of my abilities.

Does anybody know of any good sites that explain SEO in detail to newcomers? I think that would help me out a lot! And please, let the language be intended for a newbie, not a SEO expert!

I think the web is a dynamic world that we should be constantly coping up with and further continuing education greatly helps.
