Hi,
I'm new in SEO thing and wonder what is the difference between SEOing for google, yahoo and MSN. I read some where that the steps involved for SEO in google are different than yahoo and so on.

Is this true?

If yes, then what is the difference??

Yes and no.  Personally I think in this day and age, you optimize for Google, which means avoiding the (generally scummy) tactics that can get you banned there.

Well I don't think google will ban any site from listing there except for adsense and other sort of programs. You only won't get ranked if your site lacks SEO.

What's your thoughts?

Well, if you pursue illigitimate--as defined by Google--measures to build search-engine popularity for your site, I've no doubt in the world that Google would smack your site down a peg or three.

I have seen so many sites dropping pr because they use illegitimate measures to promote their sites, but none of them smashed out from Google, so pr loose is the ultimate penalty for Google as far as I know

Are the same measure deemed illegitimate by Google, also considered illegitimate by Yahoo and MSN? Or, does fulfilling Googles requirements make your site "golden" with Yahoo and MSN?

Sites can definitely get dropped from Google.  They don't notify you but your site will disappear from the listings.  You'll just show up as PR zero.

It's completely a Google decision, it won't affect Yahoo / MSN.

how the heck does google find out? do they go around looking at each site on the internet (which is impossible).

how can they find out you did "illegitimate" things and how do they know it's all for real?

kinda weird if you ask me.

Matt Cutts, the man responsible for Google's search algorithm is now head of Google's spam team.  They will in-fact drop websites from Google (blacklist).  They have kept websites from passing Google PR and have even honed it down to specific sections of websites that they won't allow to pass PR.

There are so many white hat SEO techniques to use, why not help make the Internet a better place for everyone?

If your new SEO trick seems sketchy, it probably is.  Stay away from keyword spamming, junky paid-for links, cloaking with CSS and other black hat techniques if you want to hang around in Google's index.

It's a shame that Google bans instead of suspending a site until the objectionable practices disappear.  There is little chance that someone making an honest mistake can regain a spot on Google once corrections have been made.

How long does it take for someone's site to be registered in Google, from the time the site is submitted? I heard it could take weeks, even months! Is that true? I'd be really dissapointed, though, if it were.

Google just changed their Adsense program so that only those clicks that are directly on the word of an ad, will count.

Those that click in the square, nearby, or any number of other natural things that people might do, are no longer considered qualified clicks.

Seems like google is getting stricter with their adsense now.

Hear, hear, Slingshot! Well said. I have absolutely no sympathy for any site that gets dropped by Google for using blackhat techniques. It's simply unfair.

They try to cut corners by deliberately attempting to circumvent the legitimate methods while other honest webmasters are putting blood, sweat and tears into their sites to build them up. Yet the good guys can get trumped in the listings by them. I see no reason to give them chances to fix something they know fine they shouldn't have done in the first place.Ban them, I say! It makes me mad.

Just today I saw a site that trumpeted he was PR9 right on his front page. My FF toolbar add-on which gives Google Page Ranks and Alexa ratings for every page I visit told me he was unranked. It was just a demo site and there's no way he was even close to PR9! I wonder how many folks arranged a link exchange with him though thinking he really was and that they were getting a great backlink? Tactics like that hurt not only them, but others by association.

Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now. LOL.

First and foremost it is wrong to use illegitimate ways to promote your site and Google will soon find out.  Google have their means and ways of finding out those who cheat others.  Using illegitimate ways puts you in front of others and makes other people have a disadvantage.  In other words, it is similar to stealing from others what they rightfully own.  If you plan to use illegitimate ways then you won't be doing it for long and you will have a bad reputation to live with for a long time after.
