We ran into an interesting problem today with one of our clients. We added new meta description and title tags to the site, but Google would not recognize these new tags. After some research I found that Google was using the description and title from the Open Source Directory dmoz.org listing. I'm not a fan of dmoz, but it's an evil we must deal with. I found that you can override this by using a meta NOODP tag. This tag requests that Google and/or MSN ignore the ODP title and description and use the Meta's that you specify. Although I've been doing search engine optimization for over eight years now I seem to learn something new about SEO everyday.

There is a much slower alternative fix to this meta issue. We also submitted a change order or update to dmoz.org for the newer version of our meta tag and meta description. I still feel that the NOODP tag is the better fix, because the Open Source Directory places many restrictions on options for title and description tags and the still have the ability to edit them as they see fit.
