HTML was the very first thing that I learned. I heard that most of the sites aren't even going to deal with HTML anymore, is this true?

Basic html is still used on sites, but many designers prefer to edit through CSS because it takes less time.

I learned some basic HTML awhile back, but not a whole lot. I do think that while it is pretty easy, most people have stopped because it takes quite a while.

HTML actually is not too complicated to master, compared to CSS in particular.  It's really easy to make basic sites with HTML.

me, too. html got me really interested into the web better.
it was the first aspect i've learned in web designing
about css, i think it comes hand-in-hand with html

There is a Firefox add on that let's you explore CSS. It's called Firebug.  I have it but haven't had time to use it yet.  It's my first step in fulfilling my vow to learn css.

I learnt a bit of basic HTML a while back. I dont remember much now. I dont think it's that important anyway, when we have programs that make web designing much easier.

I think I will be impressed with CSS and Ajax when I can speak into a microphone and the page develops by itself.  Otherwise I am taking my sweet time familiarizing myself with Css and Ajax.

an additional thought -- for some experts, having a lot of html tags does not make a web page look clean.
they prefer using XHTML/CSS tags and the like.

annerz,

Do you mean their code doesn't look clean or is it their actual site doesn't work?

I learnt basic HTML and it is simple to design a web page or make changes in a blog. It makes me feel that the website development is really simple.

Anyone can learn html, its simple to use, but these days you don't even need to know very much html to build a site, with all the builders out there...

HTML is important of course (Although now you'll be using xHTML not HTML, they're similar enough) but most of the layout/design of a website in general these days is done in CSS. HTML is still used as the basic skeleton of the website though.

I can tell HTML is easy to learn. The way of its writing is basically in the form of tags ,surrounded by brackets.

Yeah, it seems that HTML is being replaced by xHTML, so even though they're slightly different, it's still useful to know and understand. Also, because it's a basic code, it's a great starter language and you can build off of it. It's kinda like learning Latin....it seems kinda useless since no one speaks it any more, but it has so many roots in other things that people benefit from it anyway.
