why is it way way easier to gain inbound links from yahoo, than from google? take a look at my stats:

Google Inbound Links: 19
Yahoo Inbound Links: 2,345

any tips on getting more links from google?

No tricks.  It's a combination of quality of links and time.  Google gives credit to more links than you think.  It might say 19, but I'm sure they recognize more as it pertains to rankings.  The latest algo update from Google did remove the ability for many websites to pass PR.

It looks like Yahoo is the better deal when it comes to getting the sort of credit that has a positive impact on your page rank, that is, if you are even concerned about that aspect of marketing.

possible. and when i try searching it on google's search engine itself, i am getting this stats:
Personalized Results 1 - 10 of about 4,130 for mydomain. hmmm.
so is it my actual number of backlinks?

There are some screening mechanisms in place, certainly.  I think it may try to filter for true quality backlinks, and remove repeat domains/directories/blog comments and the like.

I know, it's addictive!  But, at least SEO and web development can be a lucrative hobby, rather than one that's expensive.

annerz,

I checked out one of my sites and I have a similar "point spread".  Kicking butt with Yahoo, and just halfway decent with Google, but then I have been focused more in niche marketing than SEO.
