Just wondering what's the difference between the meta tags and the meta description? One thing that I can think of is that the meta description is longer than the tags but I think there is much more to it.
Would appreciate your responses and thanks.

You are almost right. The meta description is also important for the search engine rankings. When you do a search the description that comes after the title is your meta description.
