The Link Popularity Checker tells you how many websites are linking to yours. Website popularity is an important factor in your search engine ranking. The more popular your site is, the better it will be ranked on the search engines.

This is very useful, i'm surprised I didn't know about it before. Consider it bookmarked, I won't make the results public but the results for one my websites is rather upsetting, it's something i'm going to have to work on.

I wonder just how some of the search engines pick up links because there was a *huge* difference for me from one engine to the next. Google was listed in the hundreds, whereas Altavista had nearly 9k for me. Kinda weird. :S

That is rather odd Kitten and I see no reason that should happen? One thing i've noticed about Altavista though is that it crawls single pages whereas Google crawls sites. If one site links to your page 50 times, Altavista will count each of those and Google will not.

I've had that happen to me in the past.  It made me doubt the accuracty of the data.  I bet Kyle is right though.  It's probably the diffence between the site and the pages being crawled.

How odd. I guess maybe because I do post on forums and one in particular shows up pretty high in the search ranks with my signature link included, that Altavista is probably picking up each and every page that I'm linked on there.

I don't think my site would register on there yet.  I am only just starting my site up so I hardly think it would register.  I will use this later on though.

Thanks for sharing. I use link popularity checker but I also check it manually to be sure.
