It is extremely important to check HTML, almost all web page content contains HTML.  It allows Web Masters' to structure text, add multimedia content, and specify what appearance, or style the result will have.

It is a criminal act to discriminate against disabled people around the world. Making sure your HTML is valid can help you avoid any legal cost's.

Uh, it's not illegal not to have an HTML only version of your site (while it's definitely good design and more accessible).

If you'd like to argue otherwise, please post a link to anyone who has been arrested for this.  Even the ADA doesn't criminalize discrimination.  If you could provide an example of even someone being successfully sued, I'd be amazed.

Yeah, I think that's a bit far fetched. I mean I guess 'maybe' someone might be able to argue it, but it's certainly not something people need to be worried about, legal-wise. It's a good idea to reach to a vast variety of people, though, so try to keep it user-friendly for lots of people.

Well it might be a bit of an over exageration, but checking your HTML and website content is extremely important even if nobody has ever been arrested for it.  Google and other search engines will not accept your website if it has content that is questionable.

Ok.  I've known how to design websites in hypertext markup language(HTML)for at least 15 years.  I have a degree in computer programming.  I think it's important to check for coding errors and proper style.  I have a child that has a disability, so I'm a huge advocate for the disabled.

I have no idea what HTML has to do with the disabled.  You keep saying check it to see if it is "valid."  Valid code has little to do with user readability.  If you are wanting people to ensure it is user friendly for the disabled, I think you should just say that, instead of referencing non-user friendly sites as criminal.  They are not criminal and they don't necessarily contain invalid HTML.

O.k sorry I made a mistake.  I feel like I have been jumped on for making a remark about HTML and getting it wrong.  I hold my hands up and say that I made a mistake.  At least I know that I made a mistake and I thank you for pointing that out to me.  At least it has raised people's awareness about HTML and also shown how we have to be user friendly to the disabled.  I am disabled myself so I wouldn't be purposely putting anyone down or saying anything that would be wrong on purpose.  I hope you will accept my apology.  But, at least it raised a good discussion.
