Please excuse me for using this blog post to brag about Slingshot SEO’s home city of Indianapolis, which is hosting one of the biggest and most anticipated events in the United States— the NFL’s Super Bowl —this weekend. Read more »
Recently, I had the pleasure of attending a Slingshot SEO client meeting in which our CLASS analysis report was being presented to a client. After the usual pleasant greetings and musings about current events in the world of marketing, the lights were dimmed, the projector was focused and more than 90 minutes of outstanding intellectual property was exchanged. For the first time in the history of Slingshot SEO, we actually locked the doors in the middle of a work day, turned on voice mail and assembled all of our local employees for a special event off site. Those actions alone heightened the staff’s anticipation of what was to come. Read more »
One of the more experienced team members here at Slingshot SEO slid by my office on the second day of 2012 and asked how many times had I put together a new plan and budget for a coming business year. This caused me to reflect a moment on my first sales position under Joe Beers who, at that time, was the vice president of Moore Business Forms. This passionate businessman taught me the value of regularly establishing short- and long-term plans, staying focused on carrying them out, and analyzing the effectiveness of your strategies. I think you will see a few of his lessons apply just as much in 2012 as they did back in the 70’s. Read more »
In my previous post, we explored how Slingshot SEO’s Research and Development department came into being, as well as peered inside the personalities and backgrounds of the three members that make up the team. Read more »
You are in for a holiday treat over the next couple of weeks as I introduce our Slingshot SEO Research and Development department and its always unflappable head Mr. Evan Fishkin.
When most people think of a technology-related company R&D department, the names Apple, Cisco, Qualcomm and others come to mind. They may have more white lab coats and bigger budgets, but I seriously doubt if they have as much fun or know as much about SEO as our talented trio! Read more »
All of you who have been keeping up with my blog during the past several months have learned quite a bit about the inner workings of Slingshot SEO. Today we are going to hone in on one of my favorite topics to discuss with our leadership team. In fact, if you ask them, they would state it is the topic I most often refer to … except, perhaps, excellence in staffing. Read more »

Building upon last week’s blog regarding our hiring processes, I asked the key person regularly driving these processes to contribute a guest post. That person is none other than Tracy Morgan, the delightful bundle of optimism to whom every one of our hiring managers turns in order to keep our multi-step methods intact.
Tracy has been instrumental in the art of casting our net out into the world of possible applicants. Social media is a vital tool in the bundle of tools and services we use here at Slingshot SEO. In particular, she is using one important social media tool to raise our game to an exciting new level. And that is paying huge dividends in both the quantity and quality of applicants.
A Word From HR
Grab a cup of coffee, take five minutes to relax and enjoy what Tracy so graciously added to my story for you:
As our company’s hiring needs grow, I am always looking for new and better ways to find top talent to join our Slingshot SEO staff. One of my favorite tools is LinkedIn, which allows candidates to sneak a peek into our unique culture. The Slingshot SEO LinkedIn career page was just launched earlier this year and has proven very successful. When I created Slingshot SEO’s LinkedIn career page I wanted to make sure it exemplified our high-energy culture and showcased our Slingshotters. I spent a few days working with the marketing department to gather essential content to make our page really pop! Read more »
One of the key areas I’ve been focusing on during my first few months here at Slingshot SEO has been human resources. HR always has been near and dear to my heart and soul because the single most important asset of any organization is its people. There is not even a close second to human capital in my opinion!
Ensuring that we have the best, brightest and most spirited team involves a systematic and well-thought out hiring process. Just like any successful coach at the college or pro level often depends on recruiting or the draft, a successful manager must have a strategy that begins with finding future superstars and avoiding the “drag” effect of turnover to the team.
