Connections Made and Lessons Learned: A Recap of MBO 2010

by Slingshot Bloggers

Led by Slingshot SEO team member Jim Brown and consisting of 18 presentations attended by 202 online marketing experts, MBO 2010 was nothing short of a success.  Attendees arrived around 8:00 a.m. for check-in and then proceeded to hear keynote speaker Mark Roberge of HubSpot share his intellect on the evolving media and technological space of inbound marketing.  It was great to see social media tactics actually being implemented during his presentation: many iPhones and other smart phones were being raised in the air periodically to capture Twitpics!

He touched on the important points of creating a successful campaign from beginning to end: SEO, blogging, social media for lead generations, and conversions rates for measurement.  Our team was happy to hear Mark speak of the power and importance of SEO—one eye-catching statistic he provided: inbound leads cost 60% less than outbound leads.

Increase Large Site Indexation Speed For Deep Pages

The launch of a new product can often be over looked on content management websites.  Many times it just as easy as uploading some photos, adding a title, and creating a description before you push the launch button.  Even if you manually launch your new product many people overlook a very large power house on their own website, internal popular product pages.

Pages that are popular on your site get crawled by Google more often than those pages that are deep within your site with little or no external links pointed to them.  By placing internal links that point to your new products, you can help get those indexed quickly.  Below is a small example of a test we did to find out how much of a difference it can make to place those internal links on popular pages and the home page. Facebook Questions: Expand the Audience, Expand Your Mind

by Slingshot Bloggers

Can you imagine being able to ask a question—any question within any topic—to a community of over 500 million active users?  Facebook aims to soon make this large scale question and answer session a reality to all of its registered users in the form of “Facebook Questions.”  Introduced last month as a beta project and launched to a limited group of users (with plans to expand) in late July, Facebook Questions could potentially cause a drastic change the search engine industry.

Facebook Questions’ selling point is a twist on its own normal operations: your question will be posted to the ENTIRE Facebook community rather than just your own social circle.  The fairly simple idea is accompanied by a simple interface allowing you to upload pictures to enhance your question or add a poll to help opinion-based questions. by Slingshot Bloggers

Founded in 2007, Blekko is the newest search engine among powerhouses Google and Bing.  According to TechCrunch, the company’s query relevancy is comparable to Google—making search engine users wonder, “What makes Blekko different than Google?”  The answer: the ability to specialize your search with the use of slashtags, a distinct feature of Blekko that may attract a crowd looking for precise search results.

The slashtag method, with the model being “keyword”/ “criteria”, allows users to search a specific keyword followed by an even more specific criteria.  According to Search Engine Land, “Slashtags allow search personalization and filtering through the creation of mini-indexes of authoritative or favorite sites.” Read more »

Will Google Caffeine Impact SEO?

by Slingshot Bloggers

Google’s recent launch of its new indexing infrastructure Caffeine has stirred up the question among SEO enthusiasts about whether or not this will have a notable impact on optimization results or the process needed for a successful SEO process.  The revamp does not change Google’s algorithm for ranking, instead, according to the Google blog, it is a sytem that’s “more than 50 percent fresher than our last index and it’s the largest collection of web content we’ve offered”.  So now “when Google crawls a page, it processes that page through the entire indexing pipeline and pushes it live nearly instantly” (Search Engine Land).
